HVACSkool (“we”, “us”, “our”) operates the website hvacskool.com and the associated learning platform (the “Service”). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, how content on the Service is sourced, and the disclaimers that apply to your use of the Service.
By using the Service you confirm that you have read and accept this Privacy Policy and our Terms & Conditions.
1. About the educational content
Lessons, articles, diagrams, calculators, quizzes, troubleshooting scenarios and other learning materials on HVACSkool are compiled from a wide variety of sources, which may include (but are not limited to):
- Publicly available textbooks, manuals and HVAC industry literature
- Manufacturer documentation, datasheets and training material
- Open educational resources, forums and online articles
- Content drafted, summarised, expanded or generated with the assistance of artificial intelligence (AI) tools and large language models
- Original notes, diagrams and explanations created by HVACSkool
Because of this, the content may contain errors, omissions, outdated information, simplifications or inaccuracies. We make reasonable efforts to keep the material useful, but we do not warrant that it is complete, accurate, current, code-compliant in your jurisdiction, or fit for any particular purpose. You should always verify critical information against current manufacturer documentation, applicable codes (NEC, IMC, IFGC, EPA, ASHRAE, OSHA, etc.) and a licensed professional before acting on it.
2. Safety disclaimer
HVAC and refrigeration work involves serious hazards including electrical shock, burns, frostbite, asphyxiation, refrigerant exposure, fire, explosion and falls. Nothing on HVACSkool should be treated as a substitute for hands-on training, supervised apprenticeship, manufacturer instructions or the judgement of a licensed HVAC professional. You assume all risk for any action you take based on content from this Service. If you are not trained and certified, do not attempt the procedures discussed.
3. Information we collect
To provide the Service we collect a small amount of information about you:
- Account information — your name, email address, chosen learning path and any profile details you provide.
- Learning progress — chapters and sections you have completed, quiz answers, XP, badges and similar progress data so we can show you where you are in the course.
- Acceptance records — the date and time you accepted this Privacy Policy and our Terms & Conditions.
- Technical data — basic information your browser shares such as device type, browser, approximate location and pages visited, used for security and to improve the Service.
- Optional data — messages you send through the Service (support requests, feedback, notes) and any content you upload.
4. How we use your information
We use your information to:
- Provide and personalise the learning experience
- Track your progress and award XP, badges and completion records
- Respond to your support requests and feedback
- Improve the Service and develop new features
- Send important account or service notices (we will not send marketing emails unless you opt in)
- Detect, investigate and prevent abuse, fraud or violations of our Terms
- Comply with our legal obligations
5. Third-party services
We rely on a small number of trusted third-party providers to operate the Service, which may include hosting (e.g. Vercel), database and authentication (e.g. Supabase), payment processing (e.g. Stripe) and analytics. These providers process information only as needed to deliver the Service and are bound by their own privacy commitments. The Service may also link out to third-party sites such as Amazon (where the underlying book is sold). We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites.
6. Cookies and local storage
We use cookies and browser local storage to keep you signed in, remember your preferences (such as sound on/off, current chapter, and acceptance of this Policy) and to operate features such as the “Mind-Shift Moments” popups. You can clear these from your browser at any time, but doing so may sign you out and reset progress that has not yet synced.
7. Data retention & deletion
We retain your account and progress data for as long as your account is active. You may request deletion of your account and associated personal data at any time by emailing us at support@hvacskool.com. Some data may be retained for a limited time afterwards where required for legal, security or fraud-prevention purposes.
8. Children’s privacy
HVACSkool is intended for users aged 16 and over. The Service is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us so we can remove it.
9. International use
HVACSkool is operated online and is accessible from many countries. By using the Service you consent to your information being processed in the countries where our service providers are located, which may differ from the laws of your home country. Codes, standards and certification requirements discussed in the content (such as EPA 608, NATE, NEC, IMC, IFGC) are primarily US-focused; you are responsible for confirming what applies in your own jurisdiction.
10. AI-assisted content disclosure
Some of the lessons, summaries, examples, quiz questions, scripts and interactive scenarios on HVACSkool have been drafted, expanded or refined with the help of AI tools. AI-generated content can be confidently wrong, biased or hallucinated. We review material where possible, but you should treat any specific number, formula, code reference, capacity, voltage, pressure or part number as indicative only and verify it against authoritative sources before relying on it.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, HVACSkool, its owner(s), contributors and affiliates shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special or exemplary damages — including but not limited to loss of profit, equipment damage, personal injury, regulatory fines, or damages of any other kind — arising from your use of, or inability to use, the Service or any content on it. The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied.
12. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as the Service evolves or as required by law. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page will reflect the latest revision. Continued use of the Service after a change indicates your acceptance of the updated Policy.
